Auntie Emilys Kitchen-Tornado Omelet Rice with Meat Sauce

Tornado Omelet Rice with Meat Sauce 肉醬旋風蛋包飯

The Tornado Omelet Rice 旋風蛋包飯is very popular in Asia. I usually make mine with meat sauce because it’s easy, tasty and nutritious.
Are you worried that your egg won’t turn out? When that happens, I just call it a Volcano Omelet Rice…still a natural disaster! Just put some of the sauce on top of the egg like lava. Kids love it!
Some alternative ideas:
• use a curry sauce. Japanese curry works great
• a creamy mushroom sauce with diced chicken or bacon
• add a can of beef stew if time is limited
• chili con carne
• teriyaki sauce
• Mapo tofu (check out my recipe)

Instructions for the tornado egg (read all the steps before starting. Steps 2 and 3 need to be done in a fairly fast speed:

  • Crack and beat 2 eggs
  • In a non-stick pan, add 1 tbsp oil, pour the beaten eggs and when the egg is starting to cook, swirl the egg around to form a large circle
Auntie Emilys Kitchen-Tornado Omelet Rice with Meat Sauce-Egg-Step2
  • Use a pair of chopsticks and gather 2 opposite sides of the egg together with the chopsticks ending up being 1” apart. It will have the shape of a bow-tie
Auntie Emilys Kitchen-Tornado Omelet Rice with Meat Sauce-Egg-Step3
  • Do not remove the chopsticks from the egg and gently spin the chopsticks so that egg is also spinning to make it into a circle shape. Use the edge of the pan to help shape the egg

  • Once the egg is cooked, slide it onto the rice
